¡Hola a todos! I’m Allyson Crotty,
and I’m a second year at Wartburg College where I am majoring in Spanish.
On
Saturday, May 5, we took a bus to downtown Denver where we watched the Cinco de
Mayo parade and walked around to see all the different stands. The parade
contained a lot of cultural sights, such as the low-riders and different dance
teams. You may go look at Cody’s post about the parade as well, as he has
pictures and more in-depth information.
Because
Saturday was the first Saturday of the month, the Denver Art Museum was free
for everyone to enjoy, so Dani Tanner, Erica Olson, and I took advantage of
that opportunity. Each floor of the museum contained a different style of art
from around the world, including Pre-Colombian and Spanish, Asian, Western
American, European, American Indian, and many other styles. My absolute
favorite was the Indian art on the Asian floor, where there was an awesome
little sculpture of an elephant; elephants are my absolute favorite animals! I
also really enjoyed the Pre-Colombian and Spanish floor, where there were SO
many different artifacts from natives of Mexico and other countries in Latin
America. It was so cool to see the different styles of art from the Asian
countries and the different styles of art from the various native tribes of
Latin America. The mini trip to the museum was totally worth it!
